Working in Northwest ISD has provided me with opportunities to grow as an educator, leader, communicator, creator, designer, and problem-solver. Before becoming a Secondary Math Instructional Coach, I was a classroom teacher -- dedicated to creating dynamic learning experiences for my students that encouraged them to communicate and collaborate with one another, while mastering math skills. I taught them to think critically and demonstrate their learning through creating, rather than simply consuming. Technology was inherent to this process in my classroom, and I consistently worked to support my students' creativity by researching and learning about new tools.
As a secondary math instructional coach, I was passionate about working with other educators to successfully integrate best research based math practices, which when done strategically and with fidelity, increases learning, engagement, and self-efficacy. By working backward from a specific instructional goal and relying on research-based approaches to lesson design, we can create meaningful opportunities for students to own their learning and feel proud of their growth and accomplishments.
I felt privileged to work with teachers and students each day. Our team supports campus and district goals in a variety of ways including creating resources, coaching educators, designing and facilitating professional development, designing and growing the Secondary Math curriculum, creating innovative and cross-curricular opportunities for learning, hosting our district-wide professional development, and more.
Relationship building through all platforms
Modeling what we wanted educators to utilize in their classrooms is one way we would gain buy-in with new strategies.
